Pre Sea Training for G.P. Rating

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

GP Rating course stands for General Purpose Rating course.This course will help one in building a career in Merchant Navy. Students who want to have an exciting and adventurous career may go for this course. Financially too, jobs that one will get after completing GP Rating course, are financially rewarding. The course duration is 6 months long. It is a pre-sea training course. GP Rating course focuses on training cadets in two main roles of shipping sector- Deck crew and engine crew. GP Rating combines them both and trains candidate Deck as well as Engine Rating aspects. As part of the course, cadets will b given knowledge and skills related to topics like- ship machinery, swimming, fire prevention and safety technology, first AID, basics of sea, ship familiarization faring etc.

JOB PROSPECTUS:

Merchant ships require qualified and competent personnel man to various services and systems on board . After completing training a candidate can join either as a Deck or Engine Rating.

ELIGIBILITY:

• Pass in 10th standard or above from recognized board with 40% aggregate and 40% in English subject either in 10th or (10+2)

• Medically and physically Fit

• 6/6 Eye vision

• No Visual aids

• No color blindness

• Age 18 -27 years

• SELECTION PROCEDURE:

• 1. WRITTEN EXAM

The candidate has to clear a written exam. The exam consists following subjects:

• Basic General English.

• Reasoning.

• Mathematics.

• General Science.

• General knowledge.

• Note* The paper consists of multiple choice questions. No negative marking in the examination.

2. BASIC HR INTERVIEW

• After the written exam, the candidates have to face an interview. The interview is a general HR interview where the candidate is tested with various aspects like personality, communication skill, knowledge, etc.

3. EYE VISION MEDICAL TEST

• Appear for a medical exam by D.G Shipping approved doctor.

• Note*Selection is on the basis of Merit List, you will be informed by SELECTION LETTER. Once the written & interview completed, the selected candidates are called up by a selection letter in about 10 to 15 days and those who are in waiting list they have to wait for the merit list.

Qualified candidates can log in to Website www.merchantnavy.org.in and download their SELECTION LETTER using their Roll No & Mob No. All admission related details are given in selection letter (Required documents, date and time etc)

* A basic grounding in the ship’s routine, it’s operation, legislation and their related duties.

* A good foundation in the principles of Safety, Accident Prevention, Pollution at Sea, Fire Fighting and First Aid.

* An idea of the theory and practice of a ship’s compass and hints on steering.

* Basic Engineering knowledge, maintenance and safe working practices.

* Knowledge regarding tools, equipment & instruments commonly found on board ships

* A practical knowledge of handling of Ropes, Blocks, Tackles, & Rigging.

* Practical training in handling a lifeboat and starting its diesel engine.

* Practical workshop training in Carpentry, Plumbing, Machine shop, Electrical, and Diesel Maintenance Shop & Hot work.

All Ratings are required to complete the following mandatory courses during the training period :

~ Personal Survival Techniques, (PST)

~ Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting, (FPFF)

~ Proficiency in Elementary First Aid, (EFA)

~ Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities. (PSSR)

~ Oil Tanker Familiarization (OTFC)

~ Security Training for Seafarers with designated security duties

All Instructions are imparted in the English language.

Physical training, parade and sports are part of the curriculum and are mandatory.

- Personal Survival Techniques (A-VI/1-1)

- Elementary First Aid (A-VI/1-3)

- Personal Safety and Social Responsibility (A-VI/1-4)

- Security training for seafarer with designated security duties (A-VI/6-1)

- Duration- 18 Days
